EGO (European/Everyone's Gliding Observatories) meeting:

EGO (http://www.ego-network.org) is the major forum for scientists, engineers, technicians, students and industry to exchange knowledge into past and forthcoming experiences related to glider technology and its multidisciplinary applications.

This 6th EGO meeting will be organized around plenary presentations and workshops to discuss problems, new ideas and solutions related to gliding observatories. Input, either through a oral or poster presentation as well as suggested discussion topics are welcomed.

Final Symposium of the COST Action ES0904:

The COST Action ES0904 (http://www.cost.eu/domains_actions/essem/Actions/ES0904) started in July 2010 to support student exchange, travel, meetings, training, and publications to support the organization of the European glider community. In total 16 COST countries (Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom) signed the Memorandum of Understanding. One important aspect was also the connection with the international communities and the official COST international partner countries are South Africa (CSIR), Australia (IMOS), and Mexico (CICESE). The Action will end in July 2014.

The COST action was organized around 5 Working Groups – a review of the EGO CODST activities, including the discussion about the future of the EGO will be the focus of this final symposium.

Scientific Programme

  1. Glider networks, links with observing systems and data dissemination (synergies with other observing networks)

  2. Developments on glider vehicles, sensors, and "gliderports" infrastructures (on-board capacities, ground-segment)

  3. Piloting and artificial intelligence (automated procedures for single gliders or "fleets")

  4. Operational oceanography and OSSEs (sampling strategies anddata assimilation)

  5. High resolution 4D oceanic measurements by gliders and process studies(physical and biogeochemical coupling, sub-mesoscale features, air-sea interactions,...)
